📖Definition: The graphical representation showing the prices of futures contracts for the same asset across different expiration dates
📊Why it matters: It shows market expectations about future prices, and reveals whether futures are in contango (upward sloping) or backwardation (downward sloping). Traders and hedgers use it to infer sentiment and arbitrage opportunities
💡Example: If oil futures for later months are priced higher than nearer months, the curve is in contango; a trader might sell the distant futures and buy nearer ones if they expect the curve to flatten
