📖Definition: A metric that measures how much recurring revenue you retain from existing customers over a period, including upgrades, downgrades, and churn (but excluding new customers)
📊Why it matters: NRR shows whether a business can grow even without new customer acquisition—high NRR is a sign of strong product value, pricing power, and customer stickiness (especially in SaaS)
💡Example: If a company starts the year with $1,000,000 of recurring revenue from existing customers, loses $100,000 to churn/downgrades, but gains $250,000 from those same customers upgrading, NRR is 115% (($1,000,000 - $100,000 + $250,000) ÷ $1,000,000)
