Bid-Ask Spread
📖Definition: The difference between the bid price (what buyers are willing to pay) and the ask price (what sellers are willing to accept) for a stock, ETF, or other asset
📊Why it matters: A tighter (smaller) spread usually means more liquidity and lower “hidden” trading costs. Wide spreads can quietly eat into returns, especially for frequent traders or thinly traded stocks
💡Example: If a stock’s bid is $50.00 and the ask is $50.20, the bid-ask spread is $0.20. Buying at $50.20 and immediately selling at $50.00 would cost you $0.20 per share, even if the market price didn’t move.
