📖Definition: A profitability metric that measures how efficiently a company generates after-tax operating profit from the capital (debt + equity) invested in the business.
📊Why it matters: ROIC shows whether management is creating value above the company’s cost of capital—sustained high ROIC often signals durable competitive advantages
💡Example: If a firm’s NOPAT is $120M and average invested capital is $1B, ROIC = 12%. If its WACC is 8%, it’s creating roughly 4 percentage points of value above its capital cost.
