📖Definition: The estimated value of a business at the end of a forecast period, assuming cash flows continue forever growing at a constant rate. Often used in DCF models
📊Why it matters: For many mature businesses, terminal value can represent the majority of a DCF’s total value, so small changes to growth or discount rates can meaningfully change valuation.
💡Example: If a company’s year-5 free cash flow is $50M, expected to grow at 2% forever, and the WACC is 9%, Terminal Value at year 5 = $50M × (1.02) ÷ (0.09 − 0.02) ≈ $728.6M
