📖Definition: The total value of a company, including its equity and debt, minus cash and cash equivalents. It’s a more comprehensive measure than market capitalization because it reflects the firm’s entire capital structure
📊Why it matters: EV provides a more accurate picture of what it would cost to acquire a company outright. It’s commonly used in valuation ratios like EV/EBITDA to compare companies with different levels of debt or cash
💡Example: If Company X has a market cap of $500 million, $200 million in debt, and $50 million in cash, its Enterprise Value = $500M + $200M – $50M = $650M.
